However, when one inspects the design you can tell it is merely paper glued over the normal hardcover pressing and it is merely there for aesthetic appeal. I've had mine for many years now and there is barely any wear on it. The paper is of excellent quality and is embossed in sections, which adds a tinge of making it feel artificially handmade. Rather than have a truly older styled binding, they have the typical style with embossed paper wrapped over the hard cover. In terms of binding, it technically is rather cheaply done to support the mass market interest in this series. It's strange that a lot of books don't adopt this kind of method, because it really is eye catching and I'm glad the makers of Myst picked up on that. I was an early enough adopter to be able to get all the hardcover texts and they are all beautifully designed. I truly am glad I overcame this and decided to pick up the Myst books. For some reason when such books were first coming out I was sort of skeptical about their quality. It really seems only fitting that a video game about books would have a series of books published in its name. ![]() ![]() ![]() Greenberg would visit each other What did Mrs. Whitaker do on alternate Fridays? The Gilded Age series has been as popular with critics as with readers, and MURDER IN A MILL TOWN was nominated for the coveted Mary Higgins Clark Award. This final book, which made Pat cry more than once as she wrote it, wraps things up in a way that should be eminently gratifying to Nell and Will's many admirers. As the arc of that relationship began to draw to its natural conclusion, Pat made the bittersweet decision to end the series with Book #6, A BUCKET OF ASHES, which will be published in December of 2007. The reaction of the series' fans to the complicated, slowly evolving relationship between Nell and Will ("the beating heart of the series" according to another reader) has delighted Pat, who is pretty deeply wrapped up in them herself. Nell is assisted in her sleuthing by her employer's black sheep son, Will Hewitt, whom one reader summed up with glib precision as "rich boy, martyr, and rake." The star of the series is Nell Sweeney, a young Irish-born governess with a not-so-respectable past that must be kept hidden at all costs. Ryan (the artist formerly known as Patricia Ryan) tapped into her fascination with 19th century American cities to create the Gilded Age mystery series, which is set in post-Civil War Boston. ![]() ![]() I'd be hiding under the bed shuddering without their help.Īnd a word about Stephen King: Out of almost 7,000 nominations you sent in, 1,023 of them were for the modern master of horror. ![]() ![]() Readers did nominate them, but the judges felt uncomfortable debating the inclusion of their own work - so it's up to me to tell you to find and read their excellent books!
